Social Anxiety Treatment
Gold Coast Therapy for Social Anxiety
Do you rehearse conversations before they happen… then replay them for days afterwards, cringing at everything you said? Do you dread being watched, judged, or “found out”? Have you turned down invitations, stayed quiet in meetings, or worn a confident mask that leaves you completely drained?
Social anxiety isn’t just shyness. It’s the exhausting, constant sense that you’re on show and coming up short — and it can quietly run your life.
What social anxiety really is
At its heart, social anxiety is an intense fear of being negatively evaluated. The spotlight feels like it’s on you, and your inner critic narrates every moment: they think I’m boring, I sound stupid, they can see I’m nervous. So you either avoid the situation… or you white-knuckle through it behind a performance, then pay for it with hours of anxious replaying afterwards.
Many people carry it privately for years, looking perfectly capable on the outside while feeling like a fraud underneath. If that’s you — I understand it more than you might think.
You might notice:
- Feeling exhausted after socialising, even when it “went fine” from wearing masks to “fit in”
- Fear of judgement, embarrassment, or being the centre of attention
- Anxiety that builds for days before social or work events
- Replaying interactions afterwards, hunting for what you got “wrong”
- Avoiding speaking up, eating in front of others, or public speaking
- Physical signs — blushing, shaking, sweating, a shaky voice

How we work with social anxiety
Social anxiety is powered by a harsh, watchful inner critic and by attention turned relentlessly inward, onto yourself. So a big part of the work is softening that critic and learning to shift your focus outward, off the imagined spotlight, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches.
From there, we rebuild confidence gently and gradually — no throwing you in the deep end — alongside deeper work on self-worth, because so often the fear isn’t really about the room… it’s about not feeling enough in it. Also, Clinical Hypnotherapy can ease the automatic subconscious threat response. The aim is for you to show up as yourself, without the mask, and without paying for it afterwards.
